Aparecida Is the Priority for Latin America. Says New President of Episcopal Council
HAVANA, Cuba, JULY 12, 2007 (Zenit.org).- The newly elected president of the Latin American bishops' council says the objective of his term will be implementing the directives from the Aparecida conference, held last May. Archbishop Raymundo Damasceno Assis of Aparecida, Brazil, was elected Tuesday as president of the bishops' council (CELAM). He is the same prelate that welcomed Benedict XVI to Brazil when the Pope opened the 5th General Conference of the Episcopate of Latin America and the Caribbean.
