Regnum Christi has been engaged since 2010 in a “path of renewal of the hand of the Holy See” in order to “provide itself with a suitable canonical form” indicate movement in a press release issued on November 27, 2018.
The main purpose of the Assembly in this process of canonical configuration is to agree on the text of the statutes of the future Regnum Christi Federation that after being ratified by the supreme organs of the consecrated branches will be delivered to the Holy See for final approval.
Prior to this second part of the General Assembly of Regnum Christi , the supreme organs of the Legionaries of Christ , the Consecrated and the Consecrated Laity met to express their opinion to the third draft of the Statute and offer their considerations to the General Assembly. of the Regnum Christi where all the members will be discussed, lay people included.
The Statute, a meeting point
The General Statute will express the meeting point of the discernment made during the renewal process among all the vocations of Regnum Christi in relation to the charism and mission, the spirituality, the government, the canonical form, the different vocational expressions of the charism, the participation of the laity, and the organization of apostolic activity.
The elements of convergence of the discernment of all of them (Legionaries of Christ, consecrated, lay consecrated and secular) are currently the existence of a common charism and mission, the recognition of the identity of each vocation, the original contribution of each of these vocations to Regnum Christi , the autonomy of each one of the consecrated branches, and the federation as the best canonical form to express, guard and promote the common charism.
Lay people with a voice and advisory vote
All the consecrated branches express the desire for a participation of the lay branch, even if a canonical expression of everything adequate to this reality is not found at this moment. The Government of the future federation, according to the current draft of the Statute, proposes a collegial government of the three consecrated branches in which the laity would participate with voice and with consultative vote.
Profile of the General Assembly
The General Assembly is made up of 91 delegates residing in 14 countries: Germany, Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Italy, Mexico, El Salvador, Spain, the United States, the Philippines, France and Venezuela. 37 legionaries (40%) (16 per trade, 21 per election); 30 secular (32%) (1 per job, 29 per election), (13 women, 17 men), 18 consecrated (19%) (6 per job, 12 per election); and 6 consecrated lay people (6.5%) (the 6, by profession). In total, 29 of the delegates (31%) participate by trade and 62 (69%) have been elected by the members of their own branches.
Regnum Christi in the world
At the end of 2017, Regnum Christi had 21,300 lay members, 526 consecrated members, 63 consecrated lay people and 1,537 legionaries of Christ.
It also has 11,584 members of the ECYD (the Regnum Christi charisma lived by adolescents).
There has been growth of lay members (4%) in the last year, and 1.5% in the teenagers of the ECYD. A consecrated person has been incorporated. In this period there is a decrease of 3.7% of consecrated women and 3% of legionaries.
Educational, missionary and social work
In its educational work (154 schools, 5 international academies, 14 civil universities and 4 ecclesiastical universities), 176,000 students are trained, and thousands of young people and families participate in the evangelization missions that this year 2017-2018 have completed 25 years of life
During 2017, 2 new parishes were entrusted to the Legionaries of Christ, for a total of 44 parishes, of which 28 are in Mexico (27 of them in the Prelature of Cancún-Chetumal), 8 in Italy, 2 in France , 2 in Brazil, 2 in the United States, 1 in Argentina, 1 in Canada, and the diocesan sanctuary of Our Lady of Sonsoles in Ávila, Spain and legionaries and consecrated Regnum Christi direct the center of Magdala in the Holy Land.
In 2017 – 2018, the evangelization missions of the Regnum Cristi , which are generally developed through the Youth and Missionary Family apostolate, have celebrated their 25th anniversary . They are missions at the service of parish priests, both during Holy Week and summer periods. There are missionaries from 30 countries: United States, El Salvador, Venezuela, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Cuba, Cote d’Ivoire, Poland, New Zealand, Australia, Romania, Hungary, Philippines, Canada, Belize, Italy, France, Spain , Mexico, Ireland, Germany, Bosnia, Bahamas, Lebanon, England, Austria, Belgium and Lithuania.
