‘Church Is to Be Field Hospital,’ Pope Reminds Middle East Pilgrims
August 9, 2017. Reminds Arabic-speaking Pilgrims Church Is to Be Place of Healing, Source of Hope
“I give a warm welcome to the Arabic-speaking pilgrims, particularly those from Egypt, the Holy Land, and the Middle East!”, said Pope Francis during his General Audience of August 9, 2017.
This morning’s General Audience was held at 9:30 in the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall, where the Holy Father Francis met with groups of pilgrims and faithful from Italy and from all over the world.
The Pope spoke in Italian, translated immediately into Arabic by one of his collaborators in the Roman Curia: “Jesus did not set up a Church made up of good and righteous people, but of those who are weak and sinners who have experienced the mercy of God and seek to live his will through the paths of their daily life.”
“Therefore, the primary and fundamental mission of the Church is to be a ‘field hospital,’ a place of healing, mercy and forgiveness, and to be the source of hope for all suffering, the desperate, the poor, the sinners, and the discarded.”
“May the Lord bless you all and protect you from evil!” he said.
